Nathan Lane Nabs Leading Role in HBO Drama Pilot The Money

Broadway superstar Nathan Lane hasn’t had a lot of luck headlining his own TV series, but that may be about to change: The two-time Tony winner will co-star with movie vet Brendan Gleeson in The Money, an HBO drama pilot written by Deadwood and Luck creator David Milch, according to Deadline.com. No timing or further casting has been announced.

The Money centers on James Castman (Gleeson) a Rupert Murdoch-type media mogul who uses his power and influence to expand his empire and control his family. Lane has been cast as Gordon McCarren, a reporter for Gleeson’s New York Herald who hasn’t had a byline in weeks and hopes to hang on to his job by gathering evidence to support a scoop.

Lane received a pair of 2013 Emmy nominations for his recurring roles in The Good Wife and Modern Family. He was a 2013 Best Actor Tony nominee for The Nance, which will be broadcast on PBS in spring 2014. A Tony winner for The Producers and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Lane garnered an additional Tony nomination for Guys and Dolls. Other Broadway credits include The Addams Family, Waiting for Godot, November, Butley, The Odd Couple, The Frogs, Laughter on the 23rd Floor.
