The American Theatre Wing is set to honor Dame Angela Lansbury at its annual Gala, which will be held on September 15 at New York's Plaza Hotel. The five-time Tony winner has served as Honorary Chairman of the American Theatre Wing Board of Trustees since 2010.
“Angela Lansbury’s contributions to the American Theatre are incalculable and her advocacy on behalf of the Wing unmatched,” said Heather Hitchens, Executive Director of the American Theatre Wing in a statement. “We are incredibly honored to pay tribute to all that she has done to elevate the art form that we care so deeply about.”
Lansbury last appeared on Broadway in The Best Man and will shortly appear in the West End in Blithe Spirit. She won the Tony for her performances in Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, Mame, Blithe Spirit and Dear World. Her additional Broadway credits include Hotel Paradiso, Taste of Honey, Anyone Can Whistle, The King and I, A Little Family Business, Deuce and A Little Night Music. She garnered Oscar nominations for her performances in Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Manchurian Candidate. The celebrated star of Murder, She Wrote, Lansbury’s additional film and TV credits include Beauty and the Beast, The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders, Nanny McPhee and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
