I Wish! Into the Woods Gets Off-Broadway Revival Just in Time for Christmas (and the Movie!)

Ready for an Into the Woods double whammy? Just as the world finally gets to hear Meryl Streep’s “Last Midnight,” the Roundabout Theatre Company is presenting a revival of the Tony-winning show. The new production, directed by Noah Brody and Ben Steinfeld, will play next winter, according to the Roundabout’s website. No word yet on casting.

The Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical is a witty reimagining of beloved fairy tales. It centers on the Baker and his wife, who embark on a quest to find the four items required to break a witch’s spell: the cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and the slipper as pure as gold. The Roundabout revival, which is a Fiasco production that played the McCarter Theatre over the summer, is a stripped-down version of the show that features only 10 actors and one piano. 

Of course, after you see the minimalist version of the show, you can head to the movies to see the starry screen adaptation of Into the Woods, featuring Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, James Corden, Anna Kendrick and many more, which is due to open in theaters on Christmas Day. It will be a very Into the Woods Christmas for us all!
