Tony Nominee Lily Rabe Chooses Shakespeare Over the Biggest Franchise in Hollywood

THIS is dedication to her craft! Tony nominee Lily Rabe has dropped out of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 2, the final movie in the blockbuster franchise, because filming conflicts with her commitments to Shakespeare in the Park this summer. According to The Los Angeles Times, the role of Commander Lyme, which Rabe played in Mockingjay—Part 1, will instead go to Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie.

Rabe will star as Beatrice alongside Hamish Linklater as Benedict in Much Ado About Nothing for The Public Theater’s free Shakespeare in the Park season. Helmed by Jack O’Brien, the production will run June 3 through July 6 at the Delacorte Theater.

Rabe’s Broadway credits include Seminar,The Merchant of Venice (for which she received a Tony nomination), The American Plan, Heartbreak House and Steel Magnolias. Her screen credits include All Good Things, No Reservations, Mona Lisa Smile, American Horror Story, The Good Wife and Nip/Tuck.
