Tony winner Victoria Clark, Tony nominees Lauren Worsham and Marc Kudisch and more will join Eric Idle for the New York premiere of Not the Messiah (He’s a Very Naughty Boy). The comic oratorio based on Monty Python’s Life of Brian is created by Spamalot co-creators Idle and John Du Prez. The concert production, featuring the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and conducted by Collegiate Chorale artistic director Ted Sperling, will take place on December 15 and 16 at Carnegie Hall.
Idle, a Monty Python co-creator, was nominated for Tony Awards in 2005 for the score and book of Spamalot. He also co-wrote and starred in the musical’s source material, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, as well as Life of Brian. Clark took home a Tony Award for The Light in the Piazza and recently appeared in Cinderella. Worsham earned a Tony nod for her Broadway debut in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder. Kudisch, who will appear on Broadway this spring in Hand to God, was nominated for Tony Awards for 9 to 5, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Described by Idle as “Baroque-N-Roll,” Not the Messiah originally premiered at the Luminato festival in Toronto. It was performed in 2009 at the Royal Albert Hall to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Monty Python. The Collegiate Chorale production will also feature William Ferguson.
