Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today and over the holiday weekend.
Lindsay Lohan Aims to Return to the Stage in Oleanna
Lindsay Lohan has completed her London run in David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow, directed by Lindsay Posner. And guess what? Proving her detractors wrong, she got acceptable reviews and turned up to every show on time. So positive was the experience for all concerned that it would seem that the Mean Girls star is planning to headline Mamet's Oleanna next year, also helmed by Posner. We're impressed.
Full Cast Set for The Ruling Class, Starring James McAvoy
We now know who will be joining the previously announced James McAvoy in The Ruling Class. Ron Cook (Mr Selfridge) will play Sir Charles Gurney, with Kathryn Drysdale (Suspects) as Grace Shelley, Joshua McGuire (Privacy) as Dinsdale Gurney and Anthony O’Donnell (Skyfall) as Daniel Tucker. Trafalgar Transformed's revival of Peter Barnes’ satirical comedy will be directed by Jamie Lloyd and officially open in the West End on January 27, 2015.
A New Situation at My Big Gay Italian Funeral
Frank Sorrentino (Jersey Shore’s The Situation’s big brother!) has been tapped for My Big Gay Italian Funeral off-Broadway. He will star opposite creator Anthony J. Wilkinson as his former gay lover Dominick Vitale. Currently being played by Addison LeMay, Sorrentino is set to step into the role beginning January 18, 2015.
Another Gigi in New York
You wait your whole life (no really, that's us) to see Gigi on stage and then two productions come along at once. A revival of Anita Loos’ Gigi, which opened on Broadway in 1951, launching the career of Audrey Hepburn, will run off-Broadway. The play will begin performances on January 12, 2015 at The Storm Theatre. This is not to be confused with the Great White Way-bound Gigi musical, which stars Vanessa Hudgens belting about the invention of champagne and urging us to say a prayer for her tonight. We're looking forward to seeing both.
