Amanda Seyfried Tapped for Hurlyburly
The Way We Get By's Amanda Seyfried and Marin Ireland will join original 2005 revival cast members Bobby Cannavale, Josh Hamilton, Ethan Hawke, Parker Posey and Wallace Shawn in Hurlyburly on April 26. Directed by Scott Elliott, the one-night-only reading of David Rabe’s play will benefit The New Group and take place at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre Group at The Pershing Square Signature Center. The show played Broadway in 1984 before being revived off-Broadway in 2005 and again last year.
Megan Hilty Eyes Return to the Stage
Megan Hilty has a plethora of projects on the horizon! According to E! Online, the Broadway fave is in negotiations to star in a play and also to return to Encores! this fall. Hilty also revealed more information about the previously reported division of songs between her and Smash co-star Katharine McPhee at the upcoming June 8 Bombshell concert. "It's all the old standards. I'm going to be doing ‘National Pastime' and '[They Just Keep] Moving the Line' and the two of us will be singing ‘Let Me Be Your Star' and ‘Don't Forget Me' and—Gosh, 'Hang the Moon,' 'Secondhand White Baby Grand.'" Women on the Verge to Close Early
Jeffrey Lane and David Yazbek's Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, which closed early on Broadway in 2011, will also shutter prematurely in London. The revamped musical officially opened on January 12 at the Playhouse Theatre and was originally supposed to run through August 22, but will now end its engagement on May 23. The production stars Tamsin Greig, Haydn Gwynne, Willemijn Verkaik and more.
Liza Minnelli Pens Op-Ed on Kander & Ebb
Liza Minnelli composed a touching editorial on April 23 about John Kander and Fred Ebb to mark the Great White Way opening of the last musical the duo worked on together. "The Visit represents the final moment in one of the most remarkable ongoing collaborations in the history of the theater," wrote Minnelli, who won an Oscar for her performance in the pair's Cabaret and Tonys for their productions The Act and Flora, The Red Menace. "To give you an idea of the kind of impact they have had, at least one Kander and Ebb show has been running on Broadway during 41 of the last 50 years. This year alone, there have been three."
