Looks like Billy Crystal is coming to the Great White Way. Broadway.com has learned that his autobiographical one-man show 700 Sundays… Billy Crystal… A Life in Progress is headed to Gotham this fall.
Crystal, a renowned comedian and actor, has been developing the piece at the La Jolla Playhouse. He first tried out material for the show during two special benefit performances at the regional house on February 12 and February 22, 2003. This year he returned to La Jolla to present a public workshop of the production, now entitled 700 Sundays… Billy Crystal… A Life in Progress and directed by Des McAnuff, from April 20 through May 2.
An official synopsis of the project was never released, but Crystal did explain a little bit about it during an April interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune. "It's not about my career or show business," Crystal told the paper. "It's about how I became an adult, who makes you who you are."
No theater has been announced for 700 Sundays, but sources say it is likely to take up residence at the Broadhurst. If that comes to pass it would leave the venue's previously announced tenant, Dame Edna's Back With a Vengeance, searching for another Broadway home.
