Anne L. Nathan will be Chicago's next Matron Mama Morton. She is set to begin performances on September 13, one day after current star Roz Ryan departs the Broadway company for the national tour. The tour's current Morton, Carol Woods, is going on leave to shoot a film.
"I love the show," Nathan told Broadway.com. "As a child, I was in amateur productions playing various roles. I think at 12, I played Hunyak at camp. It's going to be fun. I am really looking forward to it."
Nathan, who has never before served as a replacement, was recently featured as Emma Goldman in the Tony-winning revival of Assassins. She originated the role of Miss Flannery in Thoroughly Modern Millie and was also seen on Broadway in Ragtime. Her other theatrical credits include national tours of Les Misérables and Aspects of Love.
Chicago currently stars Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie, Terra C. MacLeod as Velma, Marti Pellow as Billy Flynn. Wayne Brady is scheduled to begin performances as Billy Flynn on September 9.
