Brooke Shields to Headline Chicago on Broadway in September

Brooke Shields, who is currently appearing as Roxie Hart in the West End production of Chicago, will return to Broadway in the role this fall. She will begin a limited engagement on the Great White Way on September 9, according to a production spokesperson.

Shields began performances in London's Chicago on April 26 and is expected to remain there through July 30. An actress and model since she was a baby, she had a breakout role in Louis Malle's Pretty Baby at the age of 13. Her film credits include Just You and Me, Kid, The Blue Lagoon, Endless Love, Brenda Starr, The Bachelor and Black and White. Her major television credit is Suddenly Susan, a show she starred in for four seasons. Her work on Suddenly Susan earned her two Golden Globe nominations. Shields made her professional stage debut in 1986, in an off-Broadway production Marguerite Duras' The Eden Cinema. She has appeared on Broadway as Rizzo in the 1995 Grease revival, and as Sally Bowles for a stint in Cabaret in 2001. She entered Wonderful Town which is produced by Chicago producers Barry and Fran Weissler last fall and earned positive reviews for her portrayal of Ruth Sherwood. Shields stayed with the revival until it closed on January 30. Shields has also been in the news lately promoting her new book, Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression.

The Broadway company of Chicago currently stars Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie Hart, Luba Mason as Velma Kelly, Christopher McDonald as Billy Flynn, Ray Bokhour as Amos Hart, Mary Testa as Matron Mama Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
