Two-Time Tony Nominee Tony Roberts Will Star in Broadway's Xanadu

Broadway vet Tony Roberts is set to join previously announced star Kerry Butler as Danny in Broadway's upcoming tuner, Xanadu. The musical starts previews on May 23 and will open at the Helen Hayes Theatre on June 26 under the direction of Christopher Ashley.

Roberts, who brings to life the role played by Gene Kelly in Xanadu's film version, was last seen on Broadway in Barefoot in the Park. He was twice nominated for Tony Awards for How Now, Dow Jones and Play it Again, Sam. Other Broadway credits include The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, Cabaret, The Seagull, The Sisters Rosensweig, Jerome Robbins' Broadway and They're Playing Our Song.

Also just announced is the creative team for Xanadu, which will include choreographer Dan Knechtges The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Tony-winning set designer David Gallo The Drowsy Chaperone and Tony-winning lighting designer Howell Binkley Jersey Boys.

With a book by Douglas Carter Beane and a score by John Farrar and Jeff Lynne, Xanadu is based on the screenplay by Richard Christian Danus and Marc Reid Rubel.
