The Marvelous Wonderettes
The hit L.A. musical The Marvelous Wonderettes will get an off-Broadway run beginning August 26 at the Westside Theatre. Written and directed by Roger Bean, the show will open on September 14. No casting has been announced.

The Marvelous Wonderettes features the sounds of the 1950s and '60s in a journey back to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where the Wonderettes—Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy—are four young girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts. The show includes such hit songs as "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Lipstick on Your Collar," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," "It's My Party" and "It's In His Kiss The Shoop Shoop Song."

Winner of L.A. Drama Critics Awards for Best Ensemble and Best Choreography and an Ovation Award for Best Musical in an Intimate Theater, The Marvelous Wonderettes played for 19 months at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood and will run from July 8 to August 31 at the Laguna Playhouse before coming to New York. The Westside Theatre's current tenant, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, closes on July 27 after a run of 12 years.

The Marvelous Wonderettes will feature set design by Mike Carnahan, costume and wig design by Bobby Pearce, lighting design by Jeremy Pivnick, sound design by Cricket S. Myers, musical direction by Brian William Baker and choreography by Janet Miller.

The off-Broadway run is presented by David Elzer Jewtopia, The Laramie Project, Peter Schneider The Lion King, Sister Act: The Musical and Marvelous Dreams, NYC.
