About the Show

Due to popular demand, Signature Theatre Company's production of Leslie Lee's The First Breeze of Summer has been extended for a second time, through October 19. The revival began performances on August 5 at the company's Peter Norton Space theater and had initially been set to close on September 28. Ruben Santiago-Hudson is the director.

Set during a hot weekend in 1977 as three generations of one family seek refuge from the sweltering weather and each other, The First Breeze of Summer's cast includes Tony and Emmy Award winner Leslie Uggams, Harvey Blanks Tabletop, Yaya DaCosta Honeydripper, Sandra Daley Defying Gravity, Crystal Anne Dickinson Tyler Perry's House of Payne, Brandon Dirden Prelude to a Kiss, Jason Dirden Two Trains Running, Quincy Dunn-Baker Romeo and Juliet, Marva Hicks Caroline, or Change, John Earl Jelks Radio Golf, Tuck Milligan Book of Days, Gilbert Owuor The Brothers Size, Brenda Pressley Dreamgirls, and Keith Randolph Smith Come Back, Little Sheba.

The First Breeze of Summer is the Signature Theatre Company's first production of the 2008-2009 season, which celebrates the historic Negro Ensemble Company NEC.
