About the Show
In the popular comedy, Everett will play Charles Condomine, an author who hires an eccentric medium to perform a seance at his home during a party in order to seek material for an expose he's planning on psychics. Unbeknownst to his wife Condomine, the psychic winds up summoning the spirit of Elvira Ebersole, Charles first wife, who has plans to get revenge on her former husband.
Everett got his start on the stage, appearing in Another Country in the West End and studying at the Glascow Citizens Theatre, where he appeared in Don Juan, A Waste of Time, Heartbreak House, The Vortex, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Private Lives and The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here. He became a promising screen star with the film version of Another Country and famously played best gay friend to Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding and Madonna in The Next Best Thing. Other notable films include The Madness of King George, Shakespeare in Love, An Ideal Husband, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Importance of Being Earnest, Stage Beauty, Shrek 2, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Stardust and Shrek the Third. One of Hollywood's first openly gay leading men, Everett penned a revealing memoir, Red Carpets and Other Banana Skins in 2006 and also was the author of the novel Hello Darling, Are You Working?
Blithe Spirit will start performances on February 26, 2009 and open in March at a Shubert theater to be announced.
