Christopher Hampton Hears Music With Rebecca

Christopher Hampton has joined the creative team of the Broadway-bound musical Rebecca, an adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s 1938 gothic novel. The Tony-winning playwright will provide the English-language book and lyrics for the show, which had its world premiere in Vienna in 2006, directed by Francesca Zambello The Little Mermaid.

Rebecca features music by Hungarian composer Sylvester Levay and book and lyrics by German author Michael Kunze Dance of the Vampires. Hampton, a Tony winner for the book and lyrics of Sunset Boulevard, is currently represented on Broadway with the revival of his play The Philanthropist and the translation of Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage.

The musical, which is being produced by Ben Sprecher and Louise Forlenza, is currently eyeing a Toronto premiere prior to Broadway and London's West End.
