About the Show

A revival of David Mamet's American Buffalo is headed for Broadway next season, according to The New York Times, with John Leguizamo “in talks” to star. No theater has been booked for the revival, but Broadway veteran Robert Falls, artistic director of Chicago's Goodman Theater, has signed on to direct.

American Buffalo tells the story of a trio of small-time crooks who come to blows over a plan to steal a valuable buffalo nickel. The play premiered off-Broadway in 1976 and won the 1977 Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play. Al Pacino appeared in a 1981 off-Broadway revival as the elder crook, known as “Teach,” and William H. Macy played the role in a 2000 revival at Atlantic Theater Company, the New York company founded by Macy and Mamet. Dustin Hoffman played the role in a 1996 film version of the play.

The Broadway production of American Buffalo will be produced by Elliot Martin, Ben Sprecher and Louise Forlenza.
