In the Next Room, or The Vibrator Play
Mrs. Daldry, a hysterical young woman seeking relief from her crippling anxiety through vibrator therapy, a controversial treatment developed by a male scientist in the latter years of the 19th century.
Before making her Broadway debut in In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play, Dizzia was an off-Broadway regular in shows such as Apparition, Eurydice, The Wooden Breeks and The Drunken City.
This is Dizzia’s first Tony Award nomination.
Dizzia may have made an impression off-Broadway, but her most explosive performance to date came in TV series Fringe, in which she played a diner patron whose head explodes.
“My dad was so cute [when he found out I was nominated]. We hugged, and then he goes, ‘Let’s jump up and down.’ So we jumped up and down! I feel like being nominated is simply an opportunity to celebrate, be it the play or the entire cast’s great work.” —Dizzia in an interview with Broadway.com, 5/10
