Near the end of her life and career as an international opera star, Maria Callas signs on to teach master classes at the Juilliard School. The play shows her encounters with three aspiring singers, as well as her reflections on her career and her turbulent personal life.
Master Class was originally produced on Broadway in 1995 and won Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actress (Zoe Caldwell) and Best Featured Actress (Audra McDonald). This revival was first presented at the Kennedy Center in March 2010 before being remounted at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, starring Tyne Daly. Daly went on to appear in a London production of the play that opened in February 2012.
