Music and lyrics by Tim Minchin; book by Dennis Kelly
Matilda tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, an extraordinarily intelligent girl with telekinetic abilities and a passion for reading books. Shunned by her unloving parents, Matilda finds comfort with her friendly local librarian and sweet teacher Miss Honey, who works at the forbidding Crunchem Hall school, run by villainous headmistress Miss Trunchbull.
This musical is based on author Roald Dahl’s beloved 1988 children’s novel of the same name.
Matilda had its world premiere on December 9, 2010, at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. The show ended its premiere run in January 2011 and re-opened on London’s West End at the Cambridge Theatre on November 24, 2011. A Broadway transfer was announced in February 2012.
