About the Show
Miss Honey, Matilda's caring and gentle teacher, who adores her pupils and takes an immediate liking to Matilda for her intellect.
With Matilda, Lauren Ward returns to Broadway for the first time in over a decade. She received a Drama Desk nomination and a Theatre World Award as the title character in the popular off-Broadway musical Violet. Her Broadway credits include Carousel, The Heiress, 1776 and Follies. Ward is back on Broadway in a role she has been playing since the first Matilda workshop.
This is Ward's first Tony nomination.
Ward and her Matilda director Matthew Warchus fell in love while working on the 2001 Broadway production of Follies. They were married shortly after it closed, and Ward moved to Warchus' home in Great Britain and she is now a mother of three: their daughter is nine, one son is seven and another is almost five.
"I always thought Matilda was a special piece and the few songs I had heard, I was like, 'Oh oh oh, those are good songs,' but I never expected all of this. We just thought it was going to be a little Christmas show up in Stratford-upon-Avon." — Lauren Ward, in an interview with Broadway.com, 4/11
