David Rambo, a CSI writer/producer and author of the current off-Broadway play The Lady with All the Answers, has been commissioned to write a solo show about President Ronald Reagan, according to Variety. Producers David Permut and Mark Travis plan to film the show for future theatrical release, as they did with Give 'Em Hell Harry (about President Harry Truman) and Bully: An Adventure With Teddy Roosevelt, both starring James Whitmore and directed by Peter Hunt, who will also direct the Reagan piece.
Permut and Travis had originally signed Lionel Chetwynd to pen the Reagan play in advance of a 10-city tour this fall. With Rambo on board, they expect production to begin next year with an unnamed “major actor” in talks to play the performer-turned politician. The producers will consult with members of the Reagan family on the show.
Rambo’s The Lady with All the Answers opened on October 14 at the Cherry Lane Theatre with Judith Ivey playing advice columnist Eppie Lederer, a.k.a. Ann Landers.
