The first preview of the Dolly Parton-penned musical 9 to 5 has been delayed again. The show’s September 6 debut and September 7 performances have been canceled. The show, originally set to debut at Los Angeles’ Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre on September 3, is continuing to experienced “technical setbacks.” The first preview is now set for September 9; the show will retain its scheduled September 20 opening.
The limited engagement is scheduled to close in Los Angeles on October 19. Two additional performances, including an evening show on 9 to 5‘s closing date, have been added to compensate for the cancellations.
9 to 5, directed by Joe Mantello, stars Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty and Marc Kudisch in a musical adaptation of the hit film, which starred Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Dabney Coleman. The musical, which features a 30-person cast and 20 new songs written by Parton, is set to begin previews at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre on March 24, 2009.
