As it is every year, the first week of January was a tough one on Broadway. Every single show was down from the previous week, with tourist friendly shows suffering the most. Beauty and the Beast was down a whopping $517,296 from the week ending January 4. Also registering six-figure drops were 42nd Street, Aida, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Chicago, Gypsy, Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, Mamma Mia!, Movin' Out, Never Gonna Dance, Rent, The Boy From Oz, The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, The Producers, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Wicked and Wonderful Town.
