Broadway's Grease Sets Closing Date

The Broadway revival of Grease is set to close on January 4. The production, directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, was originally cast via the TV reality show You’re the One That I Want. At the time of its closing, the musical will have played 31 previews and 554 performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

Grease features a book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The production began performances on Broadway on July 24 and opened on August 19.

Grease was the first Broadway show to cast its lead performers on national television. The weekly talent competition series Grease: You’re the One That I Want premiered chronicled 12 weeks of nationally televised auditions, and ultimately choseLaura Osnes and Max Crumm to play the roles of Sandy and Danny, respectively. The duo went on to make their Broadway debuts and enjoy one year and 363 performances as the stars of Grease on Broadway.

The show currently stars Derek Keeling as Danny and Ashley Spencer as Sandy and Ace Young as Kenickie, along with Ryan Patrick Binder as Doody, Susan Blommaert as Miss Lynch, Stephen Buntrock as Teen Angel, Todd Buonopane as Roger, Xavier Cano as Sonny, Janine DiVita as Rizzo, Allison Fischer as Patty, Mike McGowan as Vince, Lindsay Mendez as Jan, Jamison Scott as Eugene, Kirsten Wyatt as Frenchy and Helene York as Marty. The ensemble of Grease features Natalie Hill, Joe Komara, Amanda Lea LaVergne, Joseph Medeiros, Keven Quillon, Christina Rose, Josh Rouah, Christina Sivrich, Amber Stone and Jason Wooten.

The first national tour, starring American Idol winner Taylor Hicks, launched on December 2 at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
