This is just the latest in a series of Cher news. On August 23 Broadway.com reported that there is a possibility she may star in the Mame television movie and/or The Graduate on Broadway.
Cher first became famous as part of the duet Sonny & Cher. The duo had numerous top 10 hits including “I Got You Babe” and “The Beat Goes On.” Early in the 1970s, Sonny & Cher starred in a popular variety show, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, which lasted for almost three years. After divorcing Sonny, Cher went on to have her own short-lived television show Cher and a fleeting business reunion in 1976’s The Sonny and Cher Show. After the cancellation of The Sonny and Cher Show, Cher’s career began to rebound in 1981 after she debuted off-Broadway in Come Back to the Five & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean and reprised her role in the movie version of the play. Cher went on to have an accomplished career in films. She earned a 1983 Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Silkwood. In 1987, she received an Academy Award for Best Actress for her star turn in Moonstruck. Her other film credits include Mask, Mermaids and Tea with Mussolini. In the 1990’s, Cher has returned to her status as a small-screen icon. The diva hosted infomercials, hawked Equal sweetener, and released exercise videos. Over the decades, Cher has continued her recording career, most recently with the album Believe.
