East Village Opera Company Plans Mash-Up Version of The Sound of Music

'East Village Opera Company'

The East Village Opera Company will deconstruct 'The Sound of Music.'

The innovative East Village Opera Company will work its magic on Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music in a one-time concert performance at the Highline Ballroom on December 21. EVOC founder and arranger Peter Kiesewalter will play keyboards alongside guitarist Ben Butler, bassist Richard Hammond and drummer Jeff Lipstein.

Describing their creative process as “old school meets new school,” EVOC takes classic material and mixes it with current popular music, notably in the recent Grammy-nominated album Olde School. For its Sound of Music show, the group’s “core-tet” will join with special guest musicians and singers to perform songs such as “Do Re Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “The Lonely Goatherd” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” lovingly reworked into a joyful mash-up. Presented by arrangement with the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, this concert event will allow fans to experience the songs they love as they’ve never heard them before.
