Gaines and Benanti Join LuPone for Encores! Mounting of Gypsy

Three-time Tony winner Boyd Gaines and Laura Benanti are set to star as Herbie and Louise opposite previously announced headliner Patti LuPone in in the New York City Center's Encores! Summer Stars production of Gypsy. The classic tuner will run from July 9 through July 29 under the direction of the show's librettist, Arthur Laurents. Opening night is July 14.

Gaines has been nominated for a Tony Award this year performance in Journey's End, which ends its Broadway run one June 10. He previously won the Tony for Contact, The Heidi Chronicles, and She Loves Me. His other Broadway credits include the recent revival of Twelve Angry Men, The Show Off, Cabaret and Company.

Benanti most recently starred on Broadway in The Wedding Singer Other Broadway credits include Nine, Swing! and The Sound of Music.

The Gypsy cast will also feature Leigh Ann Larkin as Dainty June, Tony Yazbeck as Tulsa, Marilyn Caskey as Electra, Alison Fraser as Tessie, Nancy Opel as Mazeppa/Miss Cratchitt, Bill Bateman as George/Mr. Goldstone/Bougeron Cochon, Jim Bracchitta as Uncle Jocko/Pastey, Sami Gayle as Baby June, Bill Raymond as Pop/Cigar, Brian Reddy as Weber/Phil and Emma Rowley as Baby Louise.

Joining Laurents on the creative team will be Set designer James Youmans, Costume designer Martin Pakledinaz, Lighting designer Howell Binkley and Sound designer Dan Moses Schreier. Bonnie Walker will reproduce Jerome Robbins' original choreography for the production.
