Huey Lewis will return to the Broadway cast of Chicago as Billy Flynn from November 20 through January 14, 2007. The rock star, who made his Broadway debut in November 2005, rejoins the company directly from the musical's national tour stop at San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre, where he will appear October 24-November 5. Lewis will also take part in Chicago's 10-year anniversary performance “Justice Served, In Our Own Words” on November 14.
Pop star Usher's last performance as Billy Flynn will be October 14. No announcement has been made regarding who will play the role in the five-week span before Lewis returns to Broadway. As previously announced, Bebe Neuwirth will return December 31 as Roxie Hart.
Lewis is the Grammy-winning lead singer of Huey Lewis and the News, which released 10 albums that produced top-10 hits such as as “The Power of Love,” “The Heart of Rock and Roll,” “Stuck With You,” “I Want a New Drug,” “Workin' For a Livin” and “If This Is It.” “The Power of Love,” which was written for the film Back to the Future, not only reached #1 on Billboard's singles chart but was also nominated for an Academy Award. Lewis was a member of the ensemble cast of the movie Short Cuts 1993 for which he received a Golden Globe. Other movie performances include Sphere, Shadow of Doubt and Duets, the latter featuring a musical duet with his co-star Gwyneth Paltrow.
Usher currently stars as Billy Flynn with cast members Bianca Marroquin Roxie Hart, Brenda Braxton Velma Kelly, Roz Ryan Matron Mama Morton, Rob Bartlett Amos Hart and R. Lowe Mary Sunshine.
