Jonathan Cake will join Claudia Shear in New York Theatre Workshop’s forthcoming production of Shear’s new play Restoration, replacing the previously announced Danny Mastrogiorgio. The play will begin performances on April 30 at NYTW and open on May 19, directed by Christopher Ashley. The production is scheduled to run off-Broadway through June 13.
In addition to Shear and Cake, the cast of Restoration will include Tina Benko, Alan Mandell and Natalija Nogulich. Shear plays Giulia, a down-on-her-luck art restorer from Brooklyn who receives what could possibly be a career-reviving job of “refreshing” Michelangelo’s “David” in time for its quincentennial celebration in Florence.
Cake’s Broadway credits include The Philanthropist, Cymbeline and Medea. Off-Broadway credits include Four Benches and Parlour Song. London credits include Baby Doll and Coriolanus. On film, Cake has been seen in First Knight, True Blue, Honest, The One and Only and Brideshead Revisited.
Restoration will have set design by Scott Pask, costume design by David C. Woolard, lighting design by David Lander, sound design by Dan Moses Schreier, video design by Kristin Ellert and wig design by Mark Adam Rampmeyer.
