Kate Mulgrew to Play Maria Callas in Paper Mill's Master Class

After ending her Broadway run in Equus, Kate Mulgrew will take on the role of Maria Callas in Terrence McNally’s Tony-winning play Master Class at Paper Mill Playhouse. Wendy Goldberg will direct the production at the Millburn, NJ, theater, which runs from March 4 to April 5. Equus, which features Mulgrew as magistrate Hester Salomon, is set to close on February 8 at the Broadhurst Theatre.

In Master Class, the story of Maria Callas’ life is told through sessions in which the diva instructs three students. The role was created by Zoe Caldwell in a Tony-winning performance.

Currently on view at Paper Mill is Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest starring Lynn Redgrave as Lady Bracknell, Jeffrey Carlson as Algernon Moncrieff and Wayne Wilcox as John Worthing. Directed by David Schweitzer, the play begins previews on January 14 and will open on January 18, running through February 15.
