LaVon Fisher-Wilson has been tapped to play Matron “Mama” Morton in the Broadway company of Chicago, beginning November 14, the day the hit musical revival celebrates its twelfth anniversary and 5,000th performance. She replaces Carol Woods.
Fisher-Wilson has appeared on Broadway and in the national tour of The Color Purple and also toured in Dreamgirls. Her regional credits include Jelly’s Last Jam, Once on This Island, Crowns, Chicago, Smokey Joe’s Cafe and The Who’s Tommy.
Chicago continues its run at the Ambassador Theatre with a cast that includes Charlotte d’Amboise as Roxie Hart, Brenda Braxton as Velma Kelly, Tom Hewitt as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
