When Paulo Szot opened as Emile de Becque in Lincoln Center Theater’s revival of South Pacific, critics and theatergoers swooned—and the Brazilian-born opera star won the 2008 Best Actor Tony Award for his moving, beautifully sung performance. Since then, Szot has taken a few sabbaticals from the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic to fulfill operatic obligations, but he’s always come back to the Vivian Beaumont Theatre and a role he has grown to love. As Szot prepares to reunite with soon-to-return leading lady Kelli O’Hara as Ensign Nellie Forbush, the dashing star has agreed to answer questions from Broadway.com readers.
