Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps will transfer to Broadway's Cort Theatre on April 29, following its limited engagement at Roundabout Theatre Company's American Airlines Theatre. Adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maria Aitken, The 39 Steps will close on March 29 at the American Airlines prior to its transfer and will reopen on May 8.

The Cort's current tenant, The Homecoming, is set to close on April 13, and The 39 Steps has been pushed out of its current home by Roundabout's next show, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which begins previews on April 11. During a season in which many high-profile Broadway plays have had trouble finding an audience, The 39 Steps, which dodged the stagehands strike, found immediate success after opening on January 15, playing to 95.98% of capacity for the week ending March 16.

The 39 Steps features Arnie Burton Man #2, Charles Edwards Richard Hannay, Jennifer Ferrin Annabella Schmidt/Pamela/Margaret.and Cliff Saunders Man #1. The company also includes Claire Brownell, Cameron Fulmar and Mark Shanahan.

Mix Alfred Hitchcock's cinematic masterpiece with a juicy spy novel. Add the manic dash of vintage Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, equal parts hilarious whodunit, espionage thriller and quick-change comedy, adapted for the stage from Hitchcock's 1935 film and John Buchan's 1915 novel. Seeking a frivolous night out at the theatre, Richard Hannay is lured into a world of intrigue by a mysterious woman claiming to be a spy. When she winds up dead in his flat, he flees London with the police hot on his trail.

In addition to Roundabout, a number of producers were listed for the original American Airlines production of The 39 Steps, attesting to the possibility of a transfer: Bob Boyett, Harriet Newman Leve/Ron Nicynski, Stewart F. Lane/Bonnie Comley, Manocherian Golden Prods., Olympus Theatricals/Douglas Denoff, Marek J. Cantor/Pat Addiss, Huntington Theatre Company where the current production began last fall and Edward Snape for Fiery Angel Ltd.
