Idina Menzel & Taye Diggs
Tony Award winner Idina Menzel and Private Practice star Taye Diggs are expecting their first child, their rep confirmed to Usmagazine.com. The baby is due “later this year,” according the report. Menzel, 37, and Diggs, 38, met when they were cast as Maureen and Benny in the original off-Broadway production of Rent. After seven years of dating, the couple married in January 2003.
In addition to her Tony-nominated performance in Rent, Menzel won the Best Actress Tony for creating the role of Elphaba in Wicked. She appeared on Broadway in Aida and off-Broadway in See What I Wanna See, The Wild Party and The Vagina Monologues. Menzel released her first solo recording, I Stand, last year.
Diggs has appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Chicago and Carousel and off-Broadway in A Soldier’s Play and The Wild Party. In addition to his current role as Dr. Sam Bennett in Private Practice, Diggs has had leading roles in the TV series Kevin Hill and Day Break and was featured in Ally McBeal.
