Tony winner Lillias White will step into Chicago on January 30. She will replace Debra Monk in the role of Matron Mama Morton.
White won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance in The Life in 1997. Her other Broadway credits include Barnum, Dreamgirls, Cats, Carrie, Once on This Island and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Her off-Broadway credits include Romance in Hard Times, The Life, Dinah Was and Crowns.
In addition to Monk, the current cast of Broadway's Chicago includes Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie Hart, Brenda Braxton as Velma Kelly and Huey Lewis as Billy Flynn. However, by the time White joins the cast, three of the current stars will be gone. On January 16, Robin Givens will take over as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright will start as Velma Kelly and John O'Hurley will begin performances as Billy Flynn.
