Lovingly "ripped-off" from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and the quest for the Holy Grail. According to production materials, it features "a chorus line of legless knights, men in tights with legs, killer rabbits and sexy dancing divas." The show won 2005 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Director for Mike Nichols and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Sara Ramirez.
While Avenue Q will not tour as long as the show remains open in Vegas, Spamalot is hitting the road as promised. It will launch its national tour next March in Boston, although, according to the Associated Press, the tour will not play California, Nevada or Arizona due to the terms of the producers' agreement with Wynn Las Vegas.
