With Love from Hairspray, Darlene Celebrates B-day!
It was a happy birthday indeed for Hairspray star Darlene Love on Thursday, July 26, as family, fans and friends from the show—including new co-star, Leave it to Beaver icon Jerry Mathers—gathered to celebrate the legendary recording artist's 66th year on the planet, as well as Love's second anniversary as Hairspray's Motormouth Maybelle, at the nostalgically funky 1950s-themed Ellen's Stardust Diner on Broadway and 51 Street. To mark the occasion in the way they do at Ellen's (the wait staff takes turns singing while you dine), Darlene jumped up and performed a couple of her trademark hits from the 60s, "Da Doo Ron, Ron, Ron" and "The Boy I'm Gonna Marry."
