About the Show

As we previously reported, Billy Crystal is bringing his one-man show 700 Sundays to Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre. The piece, directed by Des McAnuff, will begin performances on November 12 in preparation for a December 5 opening, according to a production spokesperson.

700 Sundays, an autobiographical journey, is an original two-act play in which Crystal plays numerous characters that have influenced who he is today. It deals with his youth, growing up in the jazz world of Manhattan, his teenage years and finally adulthood.

Crystal, a renowned comedian and actor, had been developing the piece at the La Jolla Playhouse. He first tried out material for the show during two special benefit performances at the regional house on February 12 and February 22, 2003. This year, he returned to La Jolla to present a public workshop of the production, directed by McAnuff, from April 20 through May 2. Crystal wrote the show and Alan Zweibel contributed additional content.

As previously reported, Dame Edna's Back with a Vengeance, originally announced for the Broadhurst Theatre, is now expected to play the Music Box Theatre.
