The Brothers Booth come to off-Broadway in Luigi Creatore's new play.
What is the Story of An Error of the Moon?
A historical "what if," An Error of the Moon imagines the relationship between famed actor Edwin Booth and his brother John Wilkes Booth. The story takes place right before John Wilkes became an infamous presidential assassin. Edwin and John are the heartthrob actors of their day but, to the dismay of many women, Edwin settles down with an actress. However, he soon becomes mad with jealousy when he suspects a relationship forming between his wife and John.
What is An Error of the Moon Like?
An Error of the Moon mostly takes place in Edwin’s dressing room with John coming in for frequent visits. The two brothers have a playful relationship, but are often at odds with each other when it comes to their political viewpoints. As brothers they roughhouse (with swordplay!), but as actors they often quote Shakespeare and other famous texts. As Edwin becomes crazier, he occasionally speaks out to the audience to question the inner-workings of his mind.
Is An Error of the Moon Good For Kids?
Older teenswho know a bit about American history may enjoy learning even more, however younger kids may be turned off by the Civil War era setting. Adult subject matter such as infidelity and rape are discussed. Also as Edwin’s insanity becomes more apparent, he begins using alcohol to try and cope.
