Two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz has been cast in the pilot of the upcoming NBC drama County, according to Deadline.com. The Jason Katims project, which will chronicle the lives of young doctors, nurses, and administrators in an underfunded and morally compromising L.A. County Hospital, will star Jason Ritter.
Butz joins the cast of the pilot as a gregarious new intern at County, a former CPA who is more often focused on finding the next party than his work.
Butz, who is currently starring off-Broadway in How I Learned to Drive, won Best Actor Tony Awards for the musicals Catch Me If You Can and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and received an additional nomination for Thou Shalt Not. His other Broadway credits include Enron, Speed-the-Plow, Is He Dead?, Wicked and Rent. His off-Broadway credits include Fifty Words, Buicks, The Last Five Years, Juno and the Paycock and Saved. Butz's film credits include the forthcoming Greetings From Tim Buckley, Disconnect, The English Teacher and the recently released Higher Ground.
