Comedienne Judy Gold brings her one-woman show to the DR2 Theatre.
What Is the Story of The Judy Show?
In this autobiographical solo show, comedienne Judy Gold recalls her favorite TV comedies of the 1970s (from The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch to All in the Family and The Mary Tyler Moore Show) and compares the families portrayed onscreen to her real-life childhood in the New Jersey suburbs. Gold humorously complains about her inability to get a starring role in her own sitcom, wondering why there can’t be a show about a lesbian single mom who takes daily phone calls from her meddling Jewish mother.
What Is The Judy Show Like?
Gold’s 80-minute-long show is an endearingly funny monologue enlivened by TV theme songs (real and imagined), family photos and video clips. Mixed in with the laughs is the touching story of a girl who found love and success after growing up feeling different from her peers. The Judy Show is perfect as a “girls’ night out” as well as for singles and couples who have their own fond memories of classic TV comedies.
Is The Judy Show Good for Kids?
The show isn’t of interest to small children, but tweens will be entertained by Gold’s tales of her interfering mother and her two adolescent sons.
