Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel to the record-breaking phenomenon The Phantom of the Opera has canceled its first London preview on February 20, a spokesperson confirmed to Broadway.com. The new musical, directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, will now have the first performance of its world premiere at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre on February 22, 2010.
Love Never Dies continues the story of the Phantom, who has moved from his lair in the Paris Opera House to haunt the fairgrounds of Coney Island, far across the Atlantic. Set 10 years after the mysterious disappearance of the Phantom from Paris, the show is described as a rollercoaster ride of obsession and intrigue in which music and memory can play cruel tricks, and the title character sets out to prove that, indeed, “love never dies.”
The show stars Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom, Sierra Boggess as Christine, Joseph Millson as Raoul, Liz Robertson as Madame Giry, Summer Strallen as Meg Giry, Niamh Perry as Fleck, Adam as Squelch and Jami Reid-Quarrell as Gangle. It features music by Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Ben Elton and set and costume design by Bob Crowley.
Love Never Dies is set to open on March 9, 2010 in London, with a Broadway premiere at an as-yet unnamed theater on November 11, 2010 and an Australian debut in 2011.
