A new musical about the birth of rock 'n' roll in the turbulent 1950s.
The folks behind Memphis, the first new musical of the Broadway season, threw a Southern-style BBQ and concert in Shubert Alley on August 26. Set in the musically-rich Tennessee city in the rockin’ and rollin’ 1950s, the sexy tuner tells of a white DJ and a black soul singer who fall in love on Beale Street. Tickets are now on sale for the show, with producers announcing plans to donate a percentage of sales to VH1’s Save the Music program, which supports music programs in public schools. A hot new musical and a great cause? Count us in!
