What Is the Story of The Motherf**ker With the Hat?
Newly released from prison and struggling to remain sober, Jackie has reunited with his longtime girlfriend, a crack-smoking live wire named Veronica. Jackie leans on his addiction sponsor, Ralph D., who is married to Victoria, a resentful woman he met in AA. Also in the mix is Jackie’s cousin Julio, a salon owner with a flamboyant streak. Over the course of the play, it becomes clear that Ralph D. may not be as loyal a friend as Jackie believes. What does the future hold for this motley crew of contemporary New Yorkers? And what’s up with the title character?

Should I See It?

What Is The Motherf**ker With the Hat Like?
Funny, fast-moving and endlessly profane, The Motherf**ker With the Hat is an unpredictable theatrical stew fueled by substance abuse, romantic yearning and comic fits of jealousy. A turntable set moves the proceedings back and forth among the various characters’ shabby New York apartments, and the ensemble cast—including superstar comedian Chris Rock as Ralph D., Bobby Cannavale as Jackie and Annabella Sciorra as Victoria, plus Elizabeth Rodriguez and Yul Vazquez in the scene-stealing roles of Veronica and Julio—keep Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Broadway debut play humming. This is an evening for adult theatergoers with an adventurous streak and a high tolerance for the “f” word.

Is The Motherf**ker With the Hat Good for Kids?
The title alone should signal the answer: no way!
