More Than a Catchy Title? Learning About In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play on Opening Night

An exciting playwright in her Broadway debut, two Tony Award winning stars, a buzzworthy title and devoted band of supporters including Mary-Louise Parker, Adam Duritz, Michael Urie, Leigh Silverman, Stephen Pasquale and more? It must be opening night of Sarah Ruhl's  In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play,  which made itself official on November 19 at The Lyceum Theatre. Headed by Laura Benanti and Michael Cerveris and directed by Les Waters, the show centers on Dr. Givings, who treats overwraught Victorian women (and a few men) suffering from hysteria with an extraordinary new device (do the math). We checked in with Benanti and Cerveris, as well as costars Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Maria Dizzia, Thomas Jay Ryan, Wendy Rich Stetson and Chandler Williams at New York's Millenium hotel during an opening night bash hosted by Lincoln Center Theater.
