Story

What is the Story of The Pee-wee Herman Show?
The Pee-wee Herman Show follows the comedic character’s manic adventures inside his playhouse. The show is more of an assemblage of various skits rather than following one set storyline. Pee-wee interacts with his various friends (both puppets and human) and plays with his many toys and gadgets. A small plotline emerges when Pee-wee become jealous of his friend Pterri the Pterodactyl’s ability to fly and wishes he too could take flight. When Pee-wee’s genie friend Jambi offers to grant him one wish, Pee-wee struggles to decide if he should use the wish to help others or satisfy his own desire.

What Is The Pee-wee Herman Show Like?
The Pee-wee Herman Show has a similar format to the character’s popular TV series Pee-wee’s Playhouse. The show takes place within Pee-wee’s brightly colored playhouse, where he lives with his various puppet friends. Popular characters from the series including Chairry the Chair, Magic Screen and Globey the Globe are present. Pee-wee often speaks out to the audience inviting them to interact frequently by screaming any time the “word of the day” is spoken. Many of Pee-wee’s signature comedic bits from the TV series are also included throughout the show, while several contemporary touches are added (such as references to popular infomercial products like the ShamWow and Pee-wee’s desire to use the Internet and social networking).

Is The Pee-wee Herman Show Good for Kids?
Younger children may not have been around for Pee-wee’s original heyday, but even those unfamiliar with the character will find his over-the-top antics, the onstage puppets, audience participation and broad humor appealing. There are several jokes with sexual innuendo, but they’re fairly harmless and children likely won’t even grasp their true meaning. Some may find a few gags (such as Pee-wee’s inability to learn Spanish words) politically incorrect, but everything is meant in good fun.
