Story

What Is the Story of Rated P For Parenthood?
Dubbed as a “sketch comedy musical,” Rated P For Parenthood is a collection of short scenes and songs about parenting. Beginning with the birth of a child and ending when a teen goes off to college, the production is a collage of child-rearing milestones, from the touching to the humorous to the downright embarrassing. An ensemble cast of four plays a variety of parents, children, and even elderly grandparents, switching characters and costumes at the speed of light in this high-energy production.

Should I See It?

What Is Rated P For Parenthood Like?
Rated P For Parenthood is a sentimental and silly portrait of parenting in the 21st century. The production features vibrant songs by Dan Lipton, David Rossmer and Sandy Rustin, including “Parent Teacher Conference” and “Prayer for Ellie.” The show also includes humorous Saturday Night Live-type sketches poking fun at parenting milestones from buying breast pumps to dressing up like the Tooth Fairy.

Is Rated P For Parenthood Good for Kids?
Hire a babysitter and see Rated P for Parenthood with adult friends. Aside from inappropriate language and references to sex, there are awkward conversations between parents and children aplenty in the sketches, including a scene where a mother finds a condom in her teen’s pocket. Although older teens may be mature enough to handle the subject matter, they might feel embarrassed to see this production with their parents!
