There was a feel-good reunion backstage at Relatively Speaking on November 19, when Alan Alda dropped by to say hello to star Marlo Thomas. The pair collaborated on Thomas’ 1972 milestone Free To Be…You and Me, which encouraged individuality and tolerance among children. Alda, who memorably performed the pieces “William’s Doll” and “Atalanta” with Thomas on the album, directed the record’s stories and poems and co-starred in the TV special. Alda, who can currently be seen on the big screen in Tower Heist, was delighted to see Thomas play the spoiled and overwrought widow Doreen in George Is Dead, one of the three one-act plays that make up Relatively Speaking, but these old pals were even more delighted to catch up at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Check it out!
