The producers of Rent have announced that due to ticket demand, the landmark Broadway musical will extend its run at the Nederlander Theatre through Sunday, September 7, and will close following that evening's 6:30pm performance. The musical had previously been scheduled to close on Sunday, June 1.
Since the January announcement of the closing, box office sales have climbed steadily as fans rush to say “Goodbye, Love,” to Broadway's seventh longest running show, which did sellout business for the week ending March 23. The much anticipated final performance has been widely advertised in recent months, with farewell commercials featuring original cast members Anthony Rapp and Idina Menzel helping to drive to the buzz.
Rent currently features Tamyra Gray Mimi, Adam Kantor Mark, Declan Bennett Roger, Justin Johnston Angel, Michael McElroy Collins, Tonya Dixon Joanne, Nicolette Hart Maureen and Rodney Hicks Benny.
