A rock musical with the greatest hits of the '80s.
Do you wanna rock? Take the midnight train going anywhere? Or maybe just pull your acid-wash denim and shoulder pads out of the closet for fun? Then you are totally in luck, because '80s tuner Rock of Ages officially opened off-Broadway at New World Stages on October 16. The high-voltage homage to hair bands, starring American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis, recent Hair star Will Swenson, Broadway veteran Mitchell Jarvis and newcomer Kelli Barrett, made its rockin’ New York debut, rolling before fans like Dee Snider of Twisted Sister and Adam Duritz of Counting Crows. After bows, Rock of Ages and its enthusiastic entourage headed to an opening night bender at club Marquee the likes of which New York hasn’t seen since… well, around 1987.
